The executive committee of the Partners in Population Development has decided to construct a permanent Secretariat building in Dhaka soon. Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who chaired the meeting of the executive committee in Dhaka on Monday told AIR that the Bangladesh government has provided land for the project and steps will now be taken to begin construction of the building soon. Mr.Azad also said that executive committee chaired by India and comprising Bangladesh, China, Tunisia and Kenya also discussed ways and means for additional resource mobilisation and the new projects to be undertaken. The Partners in Population Development has 25 member countries from across the world and is working on issues like family planning, reproductive health and other issues related to population. Mr. Azad also added that a suggestion to have a common immunisation day in SAARC countries for diseases like polio came up during his meeting with the Bangladesh health minister.
