Parties in Bihar urge CEC to deploy central forces on all booths

In Bihar, leaders of different political parties have requested the Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi to ensure deployment of central para military forces at every booth as also patrolling around sensitive and supersensitive booths for peaceful and impartial elections in the state. Leaders of Congress, BJP, JD(U), RJD, LJP, NCP, BSP, CPI and CPM have submitted their memoranda and apprised the commission of their demand. They demanded that Bihar Chief Electoral officer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, Block Development Officers (BDOs), Cirle officers(Cos), SAP personnel and employees appointed on contract should be kept away from the polling day. Almost all the parties favoured ban on voting by convicted persons. AIR Patna Correspondent reports that the Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi held review meeting with the Bihar Chief Electoral officers Sudhir Kumar Rakesh and other state election officers. The commission will announce the dates for the assembly polls after reviewing the election preparedness. The Chief Election Commissioner will hold discussions with District Magistrates( DMs) and Superintendent of police ( SPs) of the districts of the state today to ensure peaceful polling during assembly elections. After that he will hold talks with Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state. The election commission had already sought details on the 13 points including deployment of paramilitary forces, Number of sensitive booths, execution of non-bailable warrants, and matter regarding transfer of those officers who have been posted at one place for the last three years. The Chief Election Commissioner will also inaugurate a photo exhibition in Patna which has been organized on the occasion of diamond jubilee year of Election Commission of India.
