Police in New York has sealed off and evacuated part of Times Square in a security alert involving a parked car. It began when a police officer notice smoking coming from a sports utility vehicle. Part of the popular tourist area in the centre of Manhattan was cleared of pedestrians while a bomb squad was sent to check the contents of the vehicle. Report says, propane tanks, powder and a timing device were found in an SUV off 45th street. Streets between Seventh Avenue and Eighth were closed as the bomb squad removed the suspicious canisters from the vehicle, although it was not clear if they were for any illegal use.
