Parsuraman describes Right to Education as a bold step

UNESCO has said that there is a strong political will and renewed commitment by the Indian government to promote education in the country. Describing the law on Right to Education as a bold step , the new Director of the UNESCO in Delhi, Mr. Parsuraman said, implementation of right to education is a challenging task and the government should get support from all quarters and the community towards this endeavour. He said, UNESCO is ready to be a partner in this enormous effort. Mr. Parsuraman's comments come on the eve of the National Day of Education tomorrow to mark the birth anniversary of the country's first Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. UNESCO Director General Mr. Koichiro Matsuura will be the guest of honour at the function which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister .A publication of the UN agency "Paths to peace, India's voice in UNESCO will also be released on the occasion. Mr. Parsuramen said that education will be the priority area for UNESCO's activities in India. He also gave the details of the proposal to set up the Mahatama Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustained development in Delhi. . He spelt out a number of activities to mark the 64th anniversary of India’s association with UNESCO.
