Members of the Parsi community across Mumbai are celebrating their Zoroastrian New Year 'Navroz' along with the rest of the country today. They have decorated their homes with garlands and Rangoli to welcome the New Year in a warm and pleasant way. The Parsis visit the fire temple on this holy day. An important part of their celebrations is the get-together with friends and family accompanied by a grand feast. Even the hotels across Mumbai have a special menu charted out on the occasion of Parsi New Year for the food loving Parsis. The day before 'Navroz' is observed as 'Pateti' by Parsis when they dwell on the wrongs or the sins committed the previous year. According to a legend, 3000 years ago Shah Jamshed of the Peshadian dynasty ascended the throne on the Navroz day. ‘Nav’ means new and ‘roze’ means day.
