Parrikar to have crucial meet with his US counterpart Ashton Carter

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar who is presently on a visit to United States of America, is scheduled to have a crucial meet with his American counterpart Ashton Carter during this week.<br/><br/> Defence sources told PTI that Mr. Parrikar, at the meeting with Carter on this Wednesday and Thursday, will plainly tell the US that its policy of engaging Pakistan is not working. The Defence Minister's visit comes against the backdrop of reported US plans to sell eight F-16 fighters and 15 attack helicopters to Pakistan.<br/><br/> Besides Pakistan, Parrikar will also take forward the Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI) as both countries work towards greater collaboration in joint development and manufacture of next-gen military technology. Both Parrikar and Carter will review the functioning of the joint working group on aircraft carrier and identify technologies India could acquire in future.<br/><br/> The two are also expected to discuss possible programmes that could be taken up under the 'Make in India' initiative. US company Lockheed Martin has already offered to manufacture its planes in India.<br/><br/>Parrikar is also scheduled to visit an important US Pacific Command based in Hawaii, the first by an Indian Defence Minister.
