Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar dedicated to the nation the Sea-keeping and Manoeuvring Basin (SMB) today at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam.<br/><br/>The SMB is a state-of-the-art hydrodynamic testing infrastructure facility to validate the design of Naval platforms and weapon systems. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parrikar said India has made considerable advancements in the field of Science and Technology and now it is making its presence with indigenously developed technologies in Defence. He called up the youth to concentrate more on science education and research and defence related developments in particular for the country to be more indigenous.<br/><br/>The Defence Minister, later, handed over the DRDO-developed Advanced Torpedo Defence System "Maareech" and "Vaarunaastra" to the Indian Navy. He also gave away mementos to scientists and engineers who were involved in the latest developments of NSTL. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R.K. Dhowan and Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and Director General, DRDO, S. Christopher were present.
