Parliamentary panel to visit nuclear plant at Kalpakkam

Members of the Parliamentary panel examining the controversial nuclear liability bill will soon be visiting nuclear plant at Kalpakkam to gain first hand experience on operations being carried out at such facilities. This was decided at a meeting of the members of the committee chaired by T Subbirami Reddy in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Top officials from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) are expected to make detailed presentations related to the operations of the nuclear power plant to the members. Seeking to hear diverse opinions on the Bill, the Committee will invite suggestions on the draft legislation from the people. Industry organisations FICCI and CII made submissions before the Committee and built a strong case for allowing private companies in the nuclear power sector. The Committee is also expected to hear the views of trade unions of the nuclear power industry.<br/>
