A Parliamentary Panel has recommended to the Home Ministry to take up the matter of medical facilities provided to personnel of Border Guarding Forces with the Health Ministry to cover all border districts under Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).

The Department Related Standing Committee on Home Affairs, headed by P Chidambaram, felt that the Jawans are not satisfied with the medical facilities offered to them, particularly at forward locations.

The Committee observed while BSF personnel are covered under CGHS, most of the border districts are not covered under the scheme making it completely futile. The Committee also recommended the Home Ministry must make efforts to construct composite hospitals in all frontier headquarters and unit hospitals in all sectors so that security personnel feel satisfied with the medical facilities.

The Committee also expressed concern over the extremely slow construction of India Bangladesh Border. It said the Home Ministry was able to complete only 21 kilometres of fencing in 17 months since July 2015.
