A Parliamentary panel has asked the Haryana government to immediately arrest those reponsible for the attack on Dalits in the Mirchpur village on the 21st of April this year and take appropriate action within a timeframe. It has also asked the State administration to provide security cover to the key witnesses of the incident and affected people who are being threatened to withdraw FIR against the culprits. The Parliamentary Committee on the welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes which made on the spot study to in connection with the incident, also said that the State government should ensure that the officers posted in the Police post set up in the village should also include officers belonging to Scheduled Caste communities. The report of the Committee was tabled in Parliament on Monday. The panel also wants the state government to reassess that the exact damage caused to each individual household and accordingly extend compensation to them. It has also asked Haryana government to direct Panchayat to take up developmental projects in the village at the earliest to engage unemployed members of the Dalit community. The committee has also urged the state government to set up human rights commission expeditiously. One person and his handicapped daughter died due to burns when 18 houses of the Dalits were set on fire by a number of people belonging to a higher caste.
