Parliamentary panel asks Govt to speed up jail reforms

A Parliamentary panel has asked the Government to speed up jail reforms. It has recommended the setting up of a prison-intelligence-cum-vigilance wing in every jail to break the nexus between jail officials and inmates to stop drug trafficking.

The Committee has laid emphasis on making jails as places of reform rather than condemnation.

The Parliament panel has further recommended the filling up of the large number of vacancies in jails and to decongest them.

It has also recommended the opening of ITIs and training centres to impart vocational skills to the inmates.

Increase in daily wages for the prisoners by way of incentive, has also been recommended.
