Parliament to resume its session tomorrow after recess of 4 days

Parliament will resume its session tomorrow after a recess of four days on account of weekly holidays and Christmas. Almost half of the winter session is over and a lots of legislative business is pending due to opposition's repeated interruptions in the proceedings particularly in the Rajya Sabha. <br/><br/>The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill is listed for introduction in Lok Sabha on Thursday. Earlier in the middle of this month, the Union Cabinet had cleared the Bill, which seeks to make the practice of instant triple talaq (talaq-e-biddat) illegal.<br/><br/>Till now, the Lok Sabha has passed Immovable Property (Amendment) Bill, Forest Act (Amendment) bill, Central Road Fund (Amendment) Bill and second batch of Supplementary Demand for Grants and related Appropriation Bill. <br/>Rajya Sabha approved IIM Bill and Companies Amemdment Bill which were earlier passed by Lok Sabha. <br/><br/>The Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Amendment Bill, The Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Amendment Bill and The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment) Bills are scheduled to be taken up for consideration and passing in the Lok Sabha.<br/><br/>The Indian Forest (Amendment) Bill, 2017, The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Bill, 2017 and The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Amendment) Bill are listed in the business of Upper House. The winter session, which began on 15th of this month will come to an end on 5th of next month. <br/><br/>The Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Amendment Bill amends the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Act, 2017 and replaces an Ordinance promulgated in September this year. The Bill amends the 2017 Act to increase the cap on the GST Compensation Cess levied on motor vehicles from 15 to 25 per cent. The Act allows the central government to notify the rate of the GST Compensation Cess on items such as pan masala, coal, aerated drinks, and tobacco, subject to certain caps to compensate states for any loss in revenue following the implementation of GST.<br/>
