Parliament session begins tomorrow, Govt to bring 25 bills

Winter session of Parliament begins tomorrow. Lokpal, Whistle Blowers' Protection and Women's Reservation are among the 25 bills that are lined up by the government for their consideration and passage during the session with 20 sittings.

Companies bill, banking laws amendment bill, insurance laws amendment bill, pension fund regulatory and development authority bill are likely to be taken up in the session. Ten bills are listed for introduction besides, voting on supplementary demand for grants for the current financial year.

On the eve of the session, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar held an all-party meeting seeking floor coordination.

Later, she told reporters that leaders of all political parties have assured their cooperation. Mrs Kumar said, the political parties have also suggested several issues to be taken up for discussion during the session.

Parliamentary affairs Minister Kamalnath said, the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. He said, the Parliament belongs to all and convergence has to be arrived at through discussion on contentious issues to avoid disruption of proceedings.

Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said, her party has given notice for discussion on FDI in retail under the rule that entails voting. She alleged that the government has violated its earlier assurance that a decision on FDI in retail would be taken only after arriving at a consensus.

Samajwadi Party leader Rewati Raman Singh said all issues should be dicussed in Parliament though FDI is the main issue. He said, his party will take a decision on the issue tommorow.

JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav said the mood among the opposition is that the Parliament should function smoothly.

AIR correspondent reports that the beginning of the session is likely to be stormy in view of the opposition parties demand for discussion on FDI in retail. They have been demanding voting on the issue of government allowing FDI in retail sector.
