Parliament session begins to elect new Nepal PM

In Nepal, the Parliament session has begun to elect a new Prime Minister. The lawmakers will take part in the voting process later this evening after members of different political parties expressed their views in the House. The parliament session which was to begin at one this afternoon was delayed by six hours. Only two candidates – Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Prachanda and Nepali Congress Parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudyal are in the electoral fray. The fourth largest party – CPN (UML) and the four Terai based parties have decided not to participate in the election process, making it almost impossible for the two contesting candidates to win a simple majority. AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that if no party gets required simple majority, there will be a third round of voting on a later date. According to Nepal's interim constitution, voting process will repeat itself until a new PM is elected through a simple majority.
