Both the Houses of Parliament today paid homage to all those martyrs of Quit India Movement, who laid down their lives and those who underwent untold sufferings for the cause of the country's freedom.<br/><br/>Making a reference in the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari said the 9th of August 2015 will mark the 73rd Anniversary of the historic day on which Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement in 1942. He said the clarion call of 'do or die' given by Gandhiji moved the entire nation to renew its struggle with single-minded commitment and dedication towards freedom from the shackles of colonial subjugation. <br/><br/>He said this upsurge of nationalistic sentiments culminated in achieving Independence five years later. He said the country is committed to uphold its sovereignty, integrity, unity and economic well-being of the people.<br/><br/>Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said the Quit India Movement is one of the defining moments in the struggle for Independence. She recalled that the masses and the classes spontaneously responded to the clarion call by the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. She called for re-dedication to the high ideals for which the martyrs stood.
