Parliament today approved the Payment of Bonus (Amendment) Bill 2015 with the Rajya Sabha adopting it. The Lok Sabha had approved the legislation yesterday. The legislation would make more workers eligible for bonus with retrospective effect from 2014-15 by raising their monthly pay eligibility limit to Rs 21,000 from Rs 10,000. The legislation also enhance monthly bonus calculation ceiling to Rs 7,000 per month from Rs 3,500. <br/><br/>Both the proposed changes are in line with the demands of 10 central trade unions, which had observed a day-long strike on September 22 this year. Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya assured the House that the Government will fully protect the interest of workers.
