A Parliament panel has called for a National Tobacco Control Policy which should be practical and easy to implement. The panel on subordinate legislation headed by Dilip kumar Mansukhlal Gandhi today submitted its report on cigarette and other tobacco products (packaging and labelling) amendment rules to Parliament. It has concluded that tobacco causes cancer and its consumption must be curtailed by all means. The report says cancer kills nearly one lakh people in the country every year.
