Both Houses of Parliament today strongly condemned the rape of a young woman in a bus in New Delhi. In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar termed the incident as a heinous crime . Raising the matter during Zero Hour, opposition leader Sushma Swaraj said the perpetrators of such crimes should be hanged. Expressing anguish over the incident, Congress leader Girija Vyas called for an amendment in the IPC relating to rape and added that fast track courts should be set up in every state to deal with rape cases. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath assured the House that action will be taken against the perpetrators of the crime and added that there is no let up in the investigation.
The Rajya Sabha is taking up a short duration discussion on this issue. Members cutting across party lines have said that this unimaginable and barbaric act has shocked the entire nation. BJP member Maya Singh, Venkaiah Naidu, Prashant Chhatterjee of CPI(M), Renuka Choudhury of Congress, BSP's Mayawati, Shasibhusan Behera of BJD and Shivananda Tiwari of JD(U) have spoken condemning this horrific act. All members were united that exemplary punishment should be given to the accused . The Home minister will reply to the discussion later.

Meanwhile two more persons have been arrested today in connection with the gangrape of a 23-year-old student in the National Capital.The victim remains on ventilator in a critical
condition. With the two arrests, the number of persons arrested in this case has gone to four. Two persons were arrested yesterday. The 23 year old para-medical student was raped and brutally assaulted by four men, who also attacked her male friend and threw both of them out of the vehicle after the crime. Last night, Ram Singh, the driver of the bus , and his brother Yogesh were arrested. Sources said police managed to get the CCTV footage of the bus from which they managed to zero in on the bus. The investigators also sent text messages to mobile phones of the victims which were snatched by the attackers. A senior police official said, one of the active phones, helped them to nab the culprits.The official said, Police have recovered the iron rod which was used to assault the victim and her male friend.
