Both the Houses of Parliament today mourned the passing away of Dev Anand, the legendary actor, producer and director of Hindi cinema.
Dev Anand (88) passed away on 3rd of December at London. Making an obituary reference in the Lok Sabha, the Speaker, Mrs. Meira Kumar said Dev Anand mesmerised generations of cinemagoers in India and abroad with his performances on screen.
She said though the void created by his demise would never be filled, his films would continue to enthrall his fans and moviegoers.
In the Rajya Sabha, the Chairman, Mohammed Hamid Ansari observed that Dev Anand was a trendsetter, credited with giving many new actors a break into the film industry and experimenting with various social issues ahead of his times i n his films.
The Chairman said in the passing away of Dev Anand, the country has lost a cinematic icon and he has left behind a void, which would be difficult to fill. Members observed silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed.
