Parliament faces repeated adjournments amid uproar over Vaidik-Hafiz issue

Both the houses of Parliament have been adjourned till noon following uproar with the opposition members raising the issue of Indian journalist meeting with Pakistani terrorist.

Soon after the Lok Sabha met for the day, Congress, Left, TMC members tried to raise the issue seeking his arrest. As Speaker Sumitra Mahajan refused to suspend the Question Hour, the agitating members have trooped in the well raising slogans against the journalist.

Two members of People’s Democratic Party also trooped into the well displaying placards on Israeli attack against Palestines in Gaza strip. The Speaker continued with Question Hour amidst noisy scenes for some time. Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the government is ready to discuss the issue on the direction of the Chair.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu also said the Government is not in favour of suspending the Question Hour. He said it is ready to discuss any issue raised by members after the Question Hour.

He asked the opposition not to name any party and said the Government is not involved in the issue. The Speaker’s repeated appeals to maintain order in the house were not heeded forcing her to adjourn the house for 20 minutes till noon.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice till noon following uproar with the opposition members demanding a discussion over the Vaidik- Hafiz issue.

The Question Hour in the Upper House was disrupted over the issue for the second consecutive day today. Demanding an immediate statement from the Government, the opposition including Congress, Left, JD (U) and Trinamool Congress asked the Government to arrest Vaidik who interviewed Hafiz Saeed, the leader of a Terror-outfit, Jamat ul Dawa.

The opposition members raised the issue soon after the house met for the day. Chairman Mohammad Hamid Ansari adjourned the house initially for 15 minutes and later till noon when his repeated appeals to take up the Question Hour went unheeded.

Earlier, talking to reporters outside Parliament, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said the opposition parties are making ruckus over Vaidik-Hafis meeting and unnecessarily disrupting the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha.

He said neither the Government nor the BJP has authorised Vaidik to visit Pakistan. Mr Naidu said the Government is ready for a detailed discussion over the issue.
