Parliament faces adjournments over Telangana issue

Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned, the Lok Sabha till 2 pm and the Rajya Sabha for 15 minutes.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day in the extended session, members from Andhra Pradesh belonging to Congress and TDP, trooped into the well, protesting against the formation of Telangana. Speaker Meira Kumar tried to persuade them to go back to their seats but her attempts went in vain, leading to uproarious scenes. Quoting the relevant rules of the House proceedings, she suspended the agitating members.

As soon as the Rajya Sabha met for the day, BJP members protested against deletion of some portion of speech of Leader of Opposition, Arun Jaitley on Friday. Raising the matter, Venkaiah Naidu said, they have received message on mobile phones from the Secretariat. Responding to this, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari said that he will look into it. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress members insisted on a discussion on petrol price hike, saying that they have already given notices. Two TDP members also raised slogans in favour of United Andhra Pradesh. As noisy scenes continued, the Chairman adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
