The deadlock between the government and the opposition over the discussion on price rise came to an end today with both sides arriving at a consensus on the issue. At an all-party breakfast meeting, convened by the Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, an agreement was reached on adopting a resolution in both the houses after discussion on the issue. The resolutions, to be moved by the Presiding Officers of the two houses, will express concern over the inflationary pressure and ask the government to take further measures to contain the adverse impact of price rise on common man. The Lok Sabha will take up the discussion on Tuesday and the Rajya Sabha day-after. The CPI(M) leader in the Lok Sabha, Mr Basudev Acharia said that the discussion on price rise will be held under the rules which do not entail voting. The CPI leader, Mr Gurudas Dasgupta said that the opposition is happy that the deadlock is coming to end and both the houses will be able to function normally. AIR Correspondent says that the first week of the monsoon session was rocked over the price rise issue and repeated adjournments. Both the Houses today are functioning normally.
