Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru was hanged this morning. Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said Afzal Guru was hanged at 8 AM. Earlier, Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesperson Venu Rajamony said that the mercy plea of Afzal Guru was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee a few days ago. Afzal Guru was convicted for his role in the attack on Parliament in 2001. He was given the death sentence by the Supreme Court in 2004. His hanging, scheduled for October 2006, was suspended after his wife filed a mercy petition on his behalf. Meanwhile curfew has been imposed in Kashmir Valley.
