Parliament approves amendments to SEBI Act

Parliament has approved amendments to the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act to widen the pool of eligible candidates for the post of presiding officer at the Securities Appellate Tribunal, with the Rajya Sabha passing it yesterday. It was earlier passed by the Lok Sabha. The new Bill would replace the ordinance promulgated by the President in this regard. Securities Appellate Tribunal adjudicates upon appeals against the decisions of capital market regulator Sebi.
