Parliament adjourns sine die

Parliament has been adjourned sine die. The budget session of parliament has come to an end as both the houses have been adjourned sine-die after passage of the finance bill 2011. While the Lok Sabha was adjourned in the afternoon, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned at 12 noon. The session completed the agenda of budgetary exercise with the approval of the Finance Bill and vote of thanks to the President's address to the joint sitting. The House began on 21st of February and Budget was presented on 28th. AIR parliamentary correspondent reports that the proceedings during the session were by and large normal after the stalemate between the Opposition and the government ended with the setting up of a JPC to probe 2G scam. Important discussions on cash for vote issue and rail budget remained highlights of the Session apart from passage and introduction of some important legislations. The Lok Sabha also had a thorough debate on the condition of minorities. The other important thing was shifting of question hour from 11. A.M to 2 P.M. in the Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar gave the resume of the activities of the session before adjourning it. Mrs.Kumar said that during the session the House had 23 sittings spread over approximately 160 hours and 35 minutes. She said, as many as 30 statements were made by ministers on various important subjects including five statements by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs on government business. In the Rajya Sabha, the Chairman Mohd. Hamid Ansari said that he has got good response on the decision of changing the timing of question hours.
