The Telangana issue rocked the proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament today forcing the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to suspend 12 members from Andhra Pradesh before adjourning the House for the day.
Earlier, the House witnessed two brief adjournments on the same issue. After naming the agitating members, 8 of them belonging to Congress and four of Telugu Desam Party, for obstructing the proceedings on Telangana issue, under relevant rules of the House, the Speaker asked them to leave the House.
The Rajya Sabha, which transacted some business in the pre-lunch session, was adjourned in the evening as the two TDP members continued to squat in the well of the House raising slogans against bifurcation of the state. The House, which re-assembled after the lunch break, witnessed noisy scenes as it was listed to take up clarifications by members on missing files relating to coal block allocations.
Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien sought the sense of the House to take action against the agitating members so that the proceedings could be taken up smoothly. Before adjourning the House for the day, Prof. Kurien observed that most of the members wanted to discuss the issue of missing files. But only two are obstructing the proceeding taking the House to ransom.
