Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on Thursday. The Winter Session of Parliament had begun on the 22nd of last month.
Summing up the Session, Speaker Meira Kumar said seven Bills were passed during the 20 sittings of the House. In addition, seven government Bills and 48 private Bills were introduced. The Ministers made 35 statements on various issues. The House sat for altogether 61 hours and 38 minutes during the Session.
As many as 135 matters of public importance and three Calling Attention Motions were taken up. Out of 400 Starred Questions, only 49 could be answered on the floor of the House. Nearly 4,500 questions were replied in writing. She regretted that the House could not take up the Constitution Amendment Bill to provide for quota in promotions to SCs and STs due to frequent disruptions. Mrs. Meira Kumar said over 59 hours were wasted due to forced adjournments.
Earlier, during the day the House witnessed six adjournments because of noisy scenes on quota in promotions for the SCs and STs.
