Parliament adjourned sine die

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die today. In her valedictory speech in the Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said there were altogether 27 sittings spread over 167 hours. She said 126 out of 540 starred questions were answered orally, which is a record in the recent times. She said 607 matters of urgent public importance were raised by the members and five short-duration discussions were taken up. She said, the discussion on the increasing incidents of communal violence remained inconclusive.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari, in his valedictory remarks observed a considerable legislative business has been transacted apart from discussion on the Railway and General Budgets 2014-15. He said, the Upper House had 27 sittings and 20 hours were devoted to Government legislative business. He said on the whole, the House conducted business for more than 140 hours. The Chairman also observed that on numerous occasions, disruption, principally in the Question Hour occurred forcing repeated adjournments of the House.
