Parliament adjourned over CAG Report on Coal block

Both the Houses of Parliament adjourned for the day with opposition pressing for the resignation of the Prime Minister following the CAG report on coal block allocations.

The Speaker adjourned the Lok Sabha as opposition members continued the uproar in the House leading to adjournment of the House.

Earlier in the morning, as soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, the BJP and Left front members surged into the well to press for the demand.

The Rajya Sabha witnessed three adjournments over the same issue. While the BJP-led opposition raised slogans against the Prime Minister, some of the members from the Treasury Benches countered them.

AIR Correspondent reports that this is for the second day that the opposition has stalled the proceedings in both the Houses.

The government on the other hand reiterated that it is ready for a discussion on the coal issue in Parliament but has ruled out the PM’s resignation.

Talking to media outside Parliament, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that allegations made by the opposition are baseless.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, minister of state in Prime Minister's office V Narayansamy said the government is ready for a discussion.

Non renewable energy minister Farooq Abdullah said the opposition should listen to the Prime Minister.

On the other hand, the BJP on Wednesday rejected suggestions for a debate on the coal block allocation issue and said they want nothing less than the PM’s resignation .

Talking to media after the meeting of BJP Parliamentary Board, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that his party will continue to raise the issue in Parliament.

NDA member JD(U) is however in favour of a discussion on the issue in the House. JD U leader Shivanand Tiwari said discussion can be held in both Houses of Parliament.

Our correspondent adds that a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) tabled in Parliament last Friday stated that there has been an estimated loss of 1.86 lakh crore rupees due to coal block allocation without auction from 2005 to 2009.
