Parliament adjourned for the day following uproar over Telangana

Both the Houses of Parliament witnessed unprecedented violent scenes over Telangana issue toay. Initially witnessing brief adjournments, the two Houses were finally adjourned for the day. The Lok Sabha will now meet at 1100 hours on Monday and the Rajya Sabha at 1230 hours to take up the interim General Budget for 2014-15 as both the Houses will not meet tomorrow on account of Ravidas Jayanthi.

Earlier in the Lok Sabha, pro and anti-Telangana members came to physical blows triggered by speculation that the government was introducing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in the House at noon. After the House re-assembled at noon, members from both Seeamandhra and Telengana regions trooped into the well. Raising slogans in support of their demands, they mobbed each other. Even before Speaker Meira Kumar could settle down to take up the listed business, members from Telangana region prevented TDP member M Venugopal Reddy from going close to the Chair. Reddy was seen breaking the table glass in the aisle where the Lok Sabha officials were on duty. Telangana members pounced on him resulting in his fall on the spot. Within no time, other members from Seeamandhra came to his rescue. L Rajgopal of Congress rushed towards Venugopal Reddy and all of a sudden started spraying some chemical randomly. This instantly caused suffocation leading to severe breathing problem and eye-burn to many members and also to media persons in the press gallery. As a result, members started leaving the house in panic even before Speaker could adjourn the House.

Meanwhile, marshals instantly whisked Rajgopal away from the House. Later, it was announced that the House was adjourned till 2PM. When the House re-assembled, Speaker announced the suspension of 17 members from Andhra Pradesh for five consecutive sittings for creating disorder and wilfully obstructing the business in the House. Of them eleven belong to Congress, four to TDP and two to YSR-Congress. Speaker had to adjourn the House for an hour following continued commotion. When the House met at 3 PM, the agitated members were still in the well raising slogans in favour of their demand. In view of pandemonium, Presiding Officer Satpal Maharaj adjourned the House till Monday.

The Rajya Sabha, also witnessed unruly scenes leading to its adjournment for the day following continued unruly scenes. Earlier, the House witnessed two adjournments, mainly on Telangana issue. Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill has been tabled in the House.
