Parliament adjourned for the day amidst noisy scenes

Telangana issue continued to hit the proceedings in the two Houses of the Parliament affecting even the presentation of rail budget. Railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge was forced to finish his budget speech in a hurry following unprecedented commotion and unruly scenes in the Lok Sabha. Even before Kharge commenced his speech, Members from both Telangana and Seemandhra regions trooped into the well and raised slogans on the statehood issue. Ministers from Seemandhra including Minister of State for Railways K. Surya Prakash Reddy were also in the well waiving placards in support of united Andhra. The slogan-shouting by agitated members reached such a feversih pitch that the Railway minister's speech could not be heard in the pandemonium. At one stage tension prevailed in the House with altercation and jostling among TDP and TRS members. However, Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar intervened to pacify the agitated groups and restore normalcy. At this time, members from West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu rushed towards treasury benches alleging denial of justice to their states in the rail budget. As the din continued further, Speaker Keira Kumar adjourned the House for the day after presentation of rail budget.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Railway Minister tabled a copy of the budget amidst noisy scenes. Earlier also, the House could not transact any business due to repeated disruptions mainly on Telangana issue. Release of Tamil fishermen,violence against women and alleged wrong mentioning of AIADMK members in the House bulletin were also raised by the agitated members.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was peeved at the unpleasant situation in Parliament. He said his heart bleeds to see what is happening in Parliament.
