Parliament adjourned for 14th day

The opposition demand for JPC probe into 2 G spectrum continued to rock both houses of Parliament for the 14th day today leading to their adjournment for the day.However, the Lok Sabha transacted substantial financial and legislative business before adjourning for the day. The appropriation bills and supplementary demands for grants moved by the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, were adopted without discussion through voice vote even as the opposition members continued to raise pitch in the well of the house.The Law Minister Mr. Veerappa Moily also introduced a Bill on judicial standards and accountability in the din.Earlier, the House reaffirmed its resolve to step up efforts to contain HIV-AIDS by generating awareness among the people to mark the World AIDS Day today. The Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar said checking the spread of HIV AIDS and eventually eradicating it is the most challenging task for the mankind.In the Rajya Sabha except for laying of papers, no other business could be transacted.Meanwhile, the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that he is not happy over the way the supplementary demands for grants were adopted in the Lok Sabha without discussion. Speaking to media outside Parliament, Mr. Mukherjee said that the government was compelled to do so because one thousand crore rupees have to be transferred to the States for externally aided projects.
