Parliament adjourned

Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned over the detention of social activist Anna Hazare. While the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 11.30 am, the Rajya Sabha till Noon. As soon as the Lower House met for the day, the BJP-led opposition demanded suspension of the question hour to discuss Anna Hazare's protest against corruption. Amidst the din, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal said that the government is prepared for a discussion on the issue and pleaded that the question hour be allowed. However, as the uproar continued, the Speaker, Mrs Meira Kumar adjourned the house for half an hour. In the Rajya Sabha, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Arun Jaitley raised Anna Hazare's detention and said, it is a serious issue facing the country. He charged the government with throttling the supporters of Anna Hazare outside Parliament. But, some of the treasury bench members tried to troop into the well of the House demanding that the House take up the Question Hour. As noisy scenes continued, the Chairman, Mohammed Hamid Ansari adjourned the House for one hour.
