Parleys continue to avert Nepal political crisis

In Nepal, leaders of major political parties were holding last minute parleys that continued till late in the evening to try and avert a political crisis with the term of the constituent assembly due to expire at midnight tonight that would leave the country without a functioning legislature unless the term of the interim parliament is extended further. The constituent assembly that serves as parliament was elected in 2008 for a two year term that was mandated to write a new constitution to pave the way for a fresh poll.AIR Kathmandu Correspondent reports that the parliament session which was to begin from eight this morning could not be convened till 7.30 this evening as the leaders of three major parties were engaged in discussions in a last minute bid to arrive at a consensus to prolong the life of the constituent assembly.
