Parl witnesses repeated adjournments over missing files of coal block allocations

Missing files of coal block allocations rocked both the Houses of Parliament today. BJP members stalled the proceedings in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha forcing their repeated adjournments before they were adjourned for the day.

Some MP's from Andhra Pradesh raised slogans against carving out a separate state of Telangana.

AIADMK and Left Front members in the Lok Sabha raised slogans against the rising prices of onion.

In the Rajya Sabha, BJP members were on their feet demanding a statement from the Prime Minister on the issue when Coal Minister Sri Prakash Jaiswal was ready with the response.

Amidst noisy scenes, Mr Jaiswal assured the members that his ministry will leave no stone unturned in tracing and providing documents to CBI which is investigating into the alleged irregularities in the coal block allocations.

He said all efforts are being made to locate the documents which are not readily available. The Minister said that an Inter-Ministerial Committee has been constituted to examine the non-availability of the files and suggest appropriate action. The Minister clarified that files on coal block allocations for the period prior to 2004 are missing.

Earlier, the House witnessed heated exchanges between treasury and opposition members on whether the Coal Minister, whose name has figured in the scam, can make a statement. To this, Mr.Jaiswal said if his involvement is proved, he is ready to face any punishment.

AIR correspondent reports that the Lok Sabha could not take up the discussion on the Food Security Bill due to continued disruptions in the House.
