Both the Houses of Parliament have reaffirmed faith in human rights and resolved to promote social progress and better standards of life for all. Making a reference to the anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar said human rights are inalienable rights of each and every one and bind them together as a global community. Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari said the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document. He said the declaration provides an opportunity to remember the ideals of universality and indivisibility of fundamental human rights. He said the day, this year, focuses on the rights of all — women, youth, minorities, persons with disabilities, indigenous people, the poor and the marginalized — to make their voices heard in public and be
included in political decision-making. The Chairman said India has always reinforced its commitment towards the protection and promotion of human rights and condemned any acts of violation of human rights.
