The Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice in its report submitted to Parliament today has stressed on the need for bringing in uniformity in the pecuniary jurisdiction of all the High Courts. It said, all district civil courts in the country including city civil courts in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai should be given unlimited pecuniary jurisdiction.
Briefing reporters Chairman of the Standing Committee Dr E M Sudarsana Natchiappan said, it would lighten the burden on the High Courts if they are made exclusive forums for appeals and writ jurisdiction. The Committee observed that as the district courts now have proper infrastructure, they should be allowed to adjudicate in the technical areas of law as well as original jurisdiction of some of the High Courts.
