Parl panel invites suggestions on Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill 2012

Parliamentary standing committee on personnel, public grievances, law and justice has invited suggestions on the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill 2012. The Committee headed by , Rajya sabha member Shantaram Naik, has invited the views and suggestions from individuals and organisations interested in the subject matter of the Bill.

The bill was introduced in the Rajya sabha on 7th May this year and referred to the Standing Committee. It seeks to amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969 to provide for compulsory registration of marriages of all persons who are citizens of India, irrespective of religion professed and practiced by the parties to the marriage.

It will also not affect in any manner the marriages already registered under any other law, including the state law making provisions for compulsory registration of marriages in their respective states.

Those desirous of submitting Memoranda to the Committee may send two copies typed in double space either in English or Hindi within fifteen days to K.P Singh, Director, Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Parliament Annexe, New Delhi.
