Parl panel asks Centre, Maha govt to remove all slum clusters around Mumbai Airport

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture has called upon all Central agencies and Maharashtra government to immediately remove all slum clusters around the Mumbai Airport. In its report presented to Parliament today, the Committee regretted the indifference of the concerned authorities in safeguarding the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport where a disaster is waiting to happen any moment in view of the encroachments.

The Committee noted that there is no justification for allowing encroachers inside the airport area. So long as the slum dwellers remain, the Mumbai airport is sitting on a ticking bomb. The slums and the squatters have to be firmly removed and relocated at the earliest.
