The first phase of the Budget session of Parliament ended today to meet again on the 24th of next month.
While the Lok Sabha was adjourned today in the pre lunch session for the day amidst continued ruckus by some members for separate statehood for Telangana, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned during the post lunch session due to lack of quorum.
The second phase of the budget session will now begin on the 24th of next month after 3 weeks recess and will go on till the 22nd of May.
The first phase of the Budget Session which started on 12th of this month witnessed presentation of the Railway Budget, the Economic Survey and the General Budget. Replying to budget discussion, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that budget proposals are aimed at fostering domestic demand driven growth, fiscal consolidation and moderation of inflation.
The proceedings of the Lok Sabha were disrupted over the issues of alleged bribe offer issue to the Army Chief and carving out separate state of Telengana.
The Lok Sabha also condemned Team Anna’s remarks on members of Parliament. The House witnessed passage to the Appropriation and Vote on Account Bills, and passed the Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill
In the Rajya Sabha emotional moments were witnessed today, when Mr. K Rahman Khan announced that he would be laying down office as Deputy Chairman of the House on April 2 after eight years of serving the Chair. Mr Khan has been re-elected to the House but would not be the Deputy Chairman. The House also bids emotional farewell to its 58 member.
