Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day.
In the Lok Sabha, as soon the House met , opposition led by BJP members trooped into the well demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister over the CAG report on coal blocks allocation. Members belonging to AIADMK and DMK protested against alleged atrocities by the Sri Lankan Navy on Tamil Nadu fishermen. The Speaker Ms Meira Kumar adjourned the House for one hour. Later, when the House reassembled the situation was the same. Repeated requests from the chair did not yield any results. The Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
The Rajya Sabha also witnessed similar situations. The opposition members stuck to their demand for Prime minister's resignation forcing the deputy chairman to adjourn the House for the day.
The government today said the opposition should let the House function and have a discussion on the CAG report on coal block allocation issue. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said it is unfortunate that they stalled the House and didn't let anyone speak. Mr Bansal said the government is prepared for a detailed discussion .
Mr. Bansal said BJP wants to create a situation of crisis but people should know the truth and what is BJP's role in coal allocation scam. The minister said demands for the prime minister's resignation were baseless.
Speaking exclusively to the All India Radio outside Parliament House, Senior Congress leader and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni said, the BJP does not want a discussion to take place. She said, if they wanted, the BJP would have given notice for a discussion. Mrs. Soni said, without allowing the parliament to function, they are straightway demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. Mrs. Ambika Soni said, the UPA government has never avoided a discussion on any issue, be it the allocation of Coal, Delhi Airport or Power Projects.
Mrs. Soni said, it is not for the first time the BJP is stalling both the houses, and they do it every session causing great loss to the exchequer. Mrs. Soni said, the houses should not be stalled like this and it is not in public interest
