Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned for one hour till noon with the opposition parties mainly demanding the rollback of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the multi-brand retail sector. As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, DMK members rushed to the well of the House demanding a discussion on the remarks by a former CAG officer. Trinamool Congress members were also seen demanding increased number of subsidized cooking gas cylinders. The BJP and Left members also raised slogans against the FDI policy.
The scene was no different in the Rajya Sabha with the BJP and Left members demanding a discussion on FDI and the DMK raising the 2G spectrum issue. Despite repeated requests by Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari, the agitating members continued to raise slogans in support of their demands forcing the adjournment of the House till noon.
Talking to reporters outside Parliament House, senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu today alleged that the UPA and its alliance partners are responsible for the stalemate in both the Houses of Parliament.He said, most of the time, UPA allies rush to the well of the two Houses, pressing for their demands. Referring to the Opposition demand on FDI, Mr Naidu said, voting after discussion is the only way to break the logjam.
Senior CPIM leader Sitaram Yechury alleged that the government has not tabled some of the changes made in the FDI policy in Parliament.
