Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned till noon today on several issues including the hike in the petroleum prices. Law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the incident of police high handedness with a woman in Punjab and the issue of Tamils in Sri Lanka were also raised by agitating members. As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, most of the opposition members trooped to the well shouting slogans in support of their demands. Amidst the din, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House till noon.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha. Following noisy scenes, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari adjourned the House.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath today appealed to the opposition parties to let the Parliament run smoothly. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Mr Nath said members can raise any issue of their concern and the presiding officers of each house can decide under which rule discussion can take place, but the main issue is there should be order on the floor of the house.
Expressing concern on continuing disruption of Parliament, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla also said, important legislative business was pending including the Motion of Thanks on President’s Address and the Rail and General Budgets.
