Samajwadi party and Shiv Sena members today forced the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha for the day protesting against the introduction of the Constitution amendment bill providing for quota in promotions for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in government jobs. As a result, the Constitution 117th Amendment Bill could not be taken up as the House witnessed noisy scenes.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day as the BJP members continued with slogan-shouting against the coal blocks allocations. The Rajya Sabha, which witnessed two adjournments in the pre-lunch session, was adjourned for the day as the agitating SP and Shiv Sena members trooped into the well of the House when it re-assembled at 2 PM.
The BJP members also raised slogans in the Upper House calling for cancellation of coal blocks allocation and demanding an independent enquiry.
Our Parliament Correspondent reports that the two Houses witnessed repeated adjournments for the 12th day on different issues. For the last two days, proceedings in the Rajya Sabha have been stalled by Samajwadi Party members against the Constitution amendment bill. But today, the Shiv Sena also joined the agitation against it.
