The standoff in Parliament between the BJP-led opposition and the government continued for the sixth day today with both houses witnessing repeated adjournments over the CAG report on coal blocks allocation. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha witnessed two adjournments in the pre-lunch session before being finally adjourned for the day. BJP members rushed into the well shouting slogans as both the houses met for the day, demanding Prime Minister's resignation.
In the Lok Sabha, the slogan shouting by BJP members was counterd today by the members from the treasury benches. The Rajya Sabha also witnessed uproarious scenes with unrelenting BJP members stalling the proceedings. Some DMK members also displayed placards opposing the training of the Sri Lankan Army personnel in India.
Amidst the uproar, both the Houses transacted some listed business today. In the Rajyasabha, the Health and Family Welfare Minister laid his statement in response to a Calling Attention Notice on the alleged cases of removal of uterus in Bihar.
Meanwhile, the government has ruled out adjourning the monsoon session of Parliament sine die. Talking to media outside Parliament, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Harish Rawat said the Government was making all efforts to end the logjam. Mr Rawat accused the BJP of continuously disrupting the House where issues concerning the common man are to be discussed. He said senior Parliamentarians like Mr Sharad Yadav are also not in support of BJP's destructive politics.
Congress Spokesman Manish Tiwari said, Congress workers will hit the streets to expose BJP's double speak.
BJP leader Prakash Javdekar said, there was no mining in even a single coal block out of the 70 allocated between 2006-09, showing the decision was not made to push economic development.
Samajwadi party leader Mohan Singh wanted the CAG Report to be cross examined by the Public Accounts Committee within a month, before being taken up for discussion in Parliament
CPI Leader Sitaram Yechuri sought the cancellation of all licenses and a thorough investigation in to Coal Block allocation. Mr Yechury said it was a matter of great regret that Parliament was not functioning smoothly.
