Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day today after paying tributes to Sis Ram Ola, Minister of Labour and
Employment, who had passed away yesterday at a hospital in Gurgaon. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed soul. Making an obituary reference, Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar recalled the services rendered by Ola as Minister in the Central Government and Rajasthan Government and Member of Parliament. In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Mohd. Hamid Ansari said, in the passing away of Sis Ram Ola, the country has lost an able administrator and distinguished Parliamentarian.
The Lok Sabha also paid tributes to its former member, Somnath Rath. He was a member of the 8th Lok Sabha representing Aska Constituency in Odisha. Somnath Rath, who was also the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly from 1980 to 1984, died on 7th of October this year at the age of 89.
AIR Correspondent reports, Sis Ram Ola was a member of the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and the current 15th Lok Sabha. He served as a Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Water Resources, Mines and Minister of Labour and Employment from June, 2013 till his demise. He has been a member of the Rajasthan Assembly for eight terms and also served as a Cabinet Minister in the State Government.
