Parl adjourned for day over coal block issue

Proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament were stalled as the stalemate between the government and the opposition BJP over the allocation of coal blocks continued for the ninth day today.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned finally for the day after witnessing an hour-long adjournment in the pre-lunch session. The House, however, passed three Bills including the Protection of Women against Sexual Harassment at Work place Bill, 2010 amidst opposition uproar.

The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and Their Rehabilitation Bill, 2012 was also introduced. Following continued noisy scenes, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House till tomorrow.

The Rajya Sabha, which witnessed two adjournments in the pre-lunch session, was adjourned for the day as the BJP members continued to stall the proceedings of the House.

The situation was no different when the House re-assembled at 2 pm as the agitating BJP members trooped into the well in support of their demand for the Prime Minister's resignation.

However, some of the Left party members wanted a discussion on an amendment Bill relating to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Amidst noisy scenes, Deputy Chairman P J Kurein adjourned the House till tomorrow.
