Parl adjourned for day over coal block issue

The issue of coal blocks allocation rocked the proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament for the tenth day today following the stalemate between the government and the BJP. The Lok Sabha was adjourned finally for the day as the BJP members continued to shout slogans in the well of the House demanding Prime Minister's resignation. Some DMK members were also seen displaying placards asking the Centre to stop training the Sri Lankan Army personnel in India.

Amidst the din, however, the House could pass the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) Bill, which seeks to declare the Bangalore-based hospital as an Institution of National Importance. The Rajya Sabha, which witnessed three adjournments till 4 PM, was adjourned for the day amid the opposition uproar over the issue. The agitating BJP members continued to shout slogans despite the appeal by Deputy Chairman P J Kurein for calm.

He observed that the House cannot pass important bills if the members continued shouting in the well. The House, however, passed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2012 amidst uproarious scenes. The bill allows all the six AIIMS-like Institutes to become operational from 15th of this month.
