Members belonging to Samajwadi Party, DMK and AIADMK have stalled the proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament today. The DMK and AIADMK members have been agitating on the issue of the Sri Lankan Tamils. Samajwadi Party members demanded the sacking of Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma for his remarks against their party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. Earlier, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha witnessed repeated adjournments before adjourning finally for the day.
In the Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said the remarks of Steel Minister against Mr. Yadav are highly unbecoming. Terming his comments as breach of privilege, Mrs Swaraj asked why Mr. Beni Prasad Verma has not yet been dropped from the Cabinet. Throughout its brief sitting, the House remained in turmoil over both the issues. Because of the repeated adjournments the House could not conduct its listed business today.
The Rajya Sabha witnessed altogether four adjournments on the same issues as the agitating members continue to raise noisy slogans in the well of the House. The House witnessed some anxious moments as DMK member Mrs. Vasanthi Stanley, who was protesting in the well, collapsed as the House was adjourned for the second time at noon. Marshals rushed wheelchair and stretcher, but Ms. Stanley regained consciousness and rested on the bench. She was later rushed to hospital.
