The Supreme Court mandated green body Environment Pollution ( Prevention and Control) Authority- EPCA has recommended four time hike in parking fees and reduction of metro fares during off-peak hours to tackle the severe air quality in Delhi- NCR.'<br/><br/>The Committee met in New Delhi in the backdrop of worsening air quality in the region and announced a series of measures under the Graded Response Action Plan. <br/><br/>The measures also include complete closure of brick kilns, hot mix plants and stone crushers across the region till further notice.<br/><br/>EPCA member and DG Centre for Science and Environment Sunita Narain told AIR that Delhi Metro has been asked to lower fares during off-peak hours for at least 10 days and introduce more coaches and frequent services.<br/><br/>She said, the body also instructed Delhi and neighbouring states to strengthen the public transport system by introducing more buses.<br/><br/>She said, the EPCA has also suggested imposing a fine of 50 thousand rupees on road construction agencies violating dust pollution norms in Delhi and NCR. <br/><br/>Ms Narain said, the EPCA also asked the Delhi-NCR governments to start preparing for measures like odd-even and ban construction<br/>activities if pollution aggravates.<br/><br/>Delhiites woke up to 'severe' air quality today with a thick<br/>haze blanketing the city as pollution levels breached permissible standards by multiple times.<br/><br/>The rapid fall in air quality and visibility began last evening as moisture combined with pollutants shrouded the city in a thick cover of haze.A 'severe' Air Quality Index comes with the warning that air affects healthy people and seriously impacts those with existing respiratory or cardiovascular diseases.<br/><br/>Due to smog-like condition, the visibility early in the morning remained low, causing problems in rail and flight movement.
